We're not Groupon!

KeenDeals is not a “deal of the day”- it’s a deal every day! We want our merchants to be just as happy with their deals as our customers are. Groupon and other similar “Deal of the Day” sites are great, but only for the customer. No doubt there are some really BIG deals to be had. The problem, as we see it, is that it’s not always a great deal for the merchants. Some merchants have had to close their doors because they could not handle the large number of deals they had to honor at such a deep discount.

Groupon Review by Jared R. 1/6/11

“If you are a business, Groupon is probably NOT for you. They are not upfront about the discounts they are REQUIRING you, the business to oer. If you do not (or cannot) oer a 50% discount, you cannot be a 'promoted deal', meaning that you are absolutely invisible to the public. There is NO listing of your offer on any portal of their website if it falls below 50%! They call this aspect a 'self promoted' deal- well thank you very much, but if I'm going to SELF promote, why would I pay Groupon 30% of that??? (and 50% if one is pushed as the 'deal of the day').

When I called customer service, they were just plain old rude. I was told that anything less than 50% would not be good for their customers, so maybe I am not a good it! The 50% o is a result of some board, which of course I could not talk to or escalate my concerns with.

Also, think of this: If they sell 100 of your oers, and only 70 are actually used- you are only getting re-imbursed for those 70. They are not paying you upfront for all of the services which they sold on YOUR behalf. This is a class action lawsuit waiting to happen. If they are selling your services, you should be paid for every single sale, regardless of whether or not it is cashed in.

Groupon is not upfront with its terms. Nowhere does it talk about the requirement of discount being 50% to be a promoted deal, UNTIL you go through the long process of creating an account prole and getting activated.”

Groupon Review by Daniel S. 12/08/10

“Am I understanding this correctly?? Groupon asks the merchant (me) to discount my product 50% to get featured, which is pretty big stretch, but maybe I could swing it. THEN they take 50% of that and I get 50%??? So basically I am asked not to give a 50% discount, but what is essentially a 75% discount! How in the world are businesses doing this?? If I "gave away" my product at a 75% discount in the quantities they are selling on groupon, I would be out of business! This sounded like a cool idea for my up and coming business, but after reading the fine print, I think I'm going to have to pass on this.”

Groupon Review by Kirsty L. 12/21/10

“While it's oh so easy to buy from Groupon, it's FAR MORE DIFFICULT TO REDEEM. The companies they select often can't deal with the high response or are desperate for a reason - ie. they don't attract custom because they oer a poor service. And Groupon's customer service is TRULY ATROCIOUS - the last guy I spoke to actually told me that while they get THOUSANDS OF COMPLAINTS A DAY, they think it DOESN'T MATTER and they're doing great.

My experiences have been - one beauty treatment for a facial and body massage turned out to be only body massage, one salon was disgustingly dirty, one company went bust (I'd bought 4 vouchers for salon treatments for me and some friends) and Groupon avoided telling customers for weeks. After many emails and calls to complain they oered a refund or replacement deal with another company. I took the replacement, received 4 new vouchers, organised my friends but when I tried to book I found Groupon had cancelled my vouchers anyway and refused to reinstate them. I booked an alternative deal for my friends last week with the £10 appology Groupon gave me but when I tried to book it just now, only 2 days after receiving the voucher, the salon is completey booked every day until the deal runs out in 3 months. As always neither the salon nor Groupon answers the phone and if you email they take weeks to respond or don't reply at all. ”

“Run the other way!!! This is my rst online complaint ever but I think you should know about this. Groupon is a web based marketing company. They promote a special your business oers to their internet customers in exchange for 50% payment. No $$ upfront.

Sounds great right? Wrong... After dealing with the pushy sales man for 2 weeks we nally agreed on a price that would be oered for the service I would provide. I had to sign a "No compete" form promising I would not place this ad or a similar one anywhere until several weeks AFTER my run date. After reading the finne print on the contract I realized it was all wrong. I had him revise the contract 3 times. Do they think we are dumb and won't read this stu?

I was concerned about the "No compete" clause I signed. I mean I agreed not to advertise this service until after this ran on Groupon. I was assured my ad would most likely be up within 8 weeks at the most. It's now been 4 months still NO ad has been placed.

I continue seeing the same businesses being promoted on Groupon but not mine. All I am told is that they will get to it. They said "We didn't guarantee your ad would be posted within 8 weeks we only said it most likely would be".

This is TERRIBLE! It's deceitful & bogus.”

You get the picture.
